Pleasant Hill Parks & Trails

Pleasant Hill has 6 parks including 40 acre lake and 5 miles of recreational trails. The park hours are from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The trails are open from sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.  We encourage you to check out our unique trail system by clicking on the Greater Des Moines Regional Trails webpage.  Current information on trail closures.  Trail Closures

Doanes Park is 40 acres, our oldest city park, and serves our community with many nice features for passive recreation. This 43 acre community park is located on South Pleasant Hill Boulevard. Facilities include two open shelters, restrooms, three baseball diamonds, two playgrounds, four tennis courts, two basketball hoops, two soccer fields and three paved areas that provide parking for over 125 cars. The Youth Center is located on the east edge of the park and serves as the location for many Parks & Recreation programs and community recreation activities throughout the year.

Sunrise Park - 5414 East Oakwood Drive

Just look for the water tower and a scenic park will be found.  Great parking and an ample amount of green space are just some of the features of this 7.5 acre neighborhood park located just south of East University Avenue on East Oakwood Drive, west of NE 56th Avenue.  An open shelter, restrooms, playground, full basketball court, informal ball diamond and soccer fields are great for entertaining families, customers, or employees. 

Sunset Park - 4490 East Oakwood Drive

If you are looking to pick up a game of baseball or soccer this 2 1/2 acre neighborhood park located on East Oakwood Drive can meet your needs. Drinking fountain, portable restroom, and picnic tables are on hand to refresh your team for the second half.  There are 29 stalls that are available for close parking.

Dar-Mar Park:
This half-acre park is located at the intersection of East Oakwood Drive and North Shadyview Boulevard.
Do you need a rest while you are walking through town?  This narrow strip of space includes an informal open play area and a swing set just right for young children.

Copper Creek Lake Park - 4390 East University Avenue

A lighted 1.22 mile trail surrounds this beautiful 40 acre lake filled with a diverse selection of plants and wildlife.  Playground, shelter, shoreline fishing and a woodland nature trail along Four Mile Creek provide education and leisure activities for families throughout this 58 acre park.  Cyclists and walkers can enjoy traveling through the heart of this park as a part of the Four Mile Creek Greenway Trail system which connects Pleasant Hill to several other communities in the Des Moines Metropolitan Area.  Lakeview dining, other shopping opportunities and entertainment are available on the parks southeast side.  Located on East University Avenue, this park is easily accessible from Pleasant Hill and Des Moines, as well as Highway 65/69.  Additional parking and a trail head, managed by the City of Des Moines, are available on the northwest side and are accessible from Williams Street in Des Moines.  Come enjoy the diverse amenities of this park.

Oak Hill Park - 2115 Copper Wynd

Our master plan reveals some enjoyable amenities for this 2 acre neighborhood park. This park currently features a shelter with electricity, drinking fountain, an informal open play area, a regulation size basketball court and modern play equipment. The playground equipment includes a tire swing, spider climber, and a funnel tunnel slide.
