Library Programs

CLASSES:

Adult Classes are offered at the library through Des Moines Adult Ed. Check out all the classes which are available at their website: www.dmced.org or call 515-242-8521.

EXPLORING DRAWING & PAINTING (Wednesdays, March 24-May 12, 6:30–8 pm; $60.00 class fee) Beginning and ongoing work in one of the following media: acrylics, gouache, pastel chalks, pencil, and watercolor, at the student's option. Particular attention will be given to the problems and techniques of working from photographs. Materials discussed during the first class session. (This class also is open to children from the age of 9, with parental consent and monitoring.) Pre-register by calling Adult Ed. at 515-242-8521.

BASIC SOAP-MAKING (Tuesdays, March 30-April 13, 6-8 pm; $25.00 class fee)Learn to make soap using the cold process method. Make several bars of soap with vegetable oils, scented with essential oils and colored in various ways.
Learn how to prepare molds, labels and calculate ingredient quantities. Safety will be emphasized. Take home several bars to enjoy with your family. Estimated supply cost $5 per student, payable at first class. Pre-register by calling Adult Ed. at 515-242-8521.

TOOTHBRUSH (NALBINDING) RUG MAKING, BEGINNING Tuesdays, 6-8 pm,
March 23 – April 13th; $28.00 class fee) Learn a new skill from the past requiring no sewing talent that you can use to make wonderful items for your home or to use as gifts. You will use strips of fabric, no thread and a wood needle. There is no counting just something to relax and do. Cost of needle is $5.50, payable to the instructor. Information about fabric costs for two projects (approx. $20) and optional book will be shared at first class. Pre-register by calling Adult Ed. at 515-242-8521.

Pleasant Hill Science Fiction Club Saturday, March 13, 1 pm. The movie Star Trek will be shown. Popcorn and beverages provided.

B.E.S.T.Program: Bringing Education and Seniors Together. We plan a day trip once a month to local sights. Times will vary according to destination. Call the library at 266-7815 for questions and to reserve your seat. Also find out what trip we have planned or add your name to the mailing list.

Book Discussion: The 4th Monday of each month at 7 pm. On March 22nd, the group will be discussing The Charlemagne Pursuit by Steve Berry. For more information, please call the library at 266-7815.

Movies and Popcorn: The fourth Thursday of every month at 6 pm

Li'bear'y Story Time: Wednesdays & Thursdays at 10 a.m. & 10:30 am. Stories, crafts for pre-schoolers.
